Greenply Industries leads the Indian wood panel industry with its first Sustainability Report

Greenply Industries Limited, a leading interior infrastructure brand in India, has taken a significant step towards sustainability by releasing its first-ever Sustainability Report. This report, developed with guidance from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, is a major milestone for the Indian wood panel industry, as Greenply is the first company in the sector to do so.

Through its ESG360 initiative, Greenply showcases its sustainability journey, which involves strengthening its systems and processes to generate data and track progress against key performance indicators based on material topics. Greenply will report across the six capitals model as per the Value Reporting Foundation, which includes manufacturing capital, natural capital, social capital, intellectual capital, financial capital, and human capital. This approach will not only improve the company’s investment decision-making processes but also integrate Sustainable Development as a behavior and a set of aspirational goals for the brand.

Manoj Tulsian, Joint Managing Director & CEO, of Greenply Industries Ltd, expressed his views on the report launch, stating, “Sustainability has been embedded in our roots over the years. We take this philosophy ahead as part of our core strategy as we embark on a formal journey with ESG initiative while we grow responsibly.” With this report, Greenply strives to become a progressively sustainable and resilient organization in the future.

Greenply has been undertaking extensive plantation activities for the past several decades to procure raw materials responsibly, with a sustainability-oriented approach. The company has attained the FSC® – FM (Forest Management) Certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) for its sustainable plantation unit located in Tizit, Nagaland, making it the first company in the interior infrastructure segment in India to achieve this certification. To date, Greenply has planted around 19.5 million saplings, covering an area of nearly 24,500 acres of plantation.

Greenply is committed to becoming a net zero-waste company. The company utilizes all waste products as fuel in the boilers, while the wastewater from production is channeled into reservoirs that provide water for sprinklers, replenishing the groundwater table. To reduce emissions and move towards renewable energy generation, Greenply has installed rooftop solar panels at all its manufacturing facilities, deployed electric vehicles and EV forklifts for in-house transportation needs, and introduced a range of Zero Emission (E-0) products, which reduce formaldehyde emission to negligible or zero, safeguarding indoor air quality. www.themachinemaker.com
