Jay Wood Industry, one of India’s leading wooden pallet manufacturers, has been awarded the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), becoming the first manufacturer in the country to receive the certification. As per the media release shared by the company, the recent certificates are significant steps towards its commitment to sustainable practices and becoming carbon neutral by 2035.
Jay Wood Industry, a pioneer in the wooden pallet manufacturing sector in India, has become the first manufacturer in the country to receive the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). This certification has been awarded to their wooden pallet manufacturing facility in Taloja, Raigad, in Maharashtra, after a rigorous inspection process and protocols by trained experts.
Commenting on the company’s recent certifications, Jay Shah, Managing Director & CEO, stated, “As a responsible manufacturer, we understand the significance of sustainability and are committed to securing wood responsibly. By becoming the first PEFC-certified wooden pallet manufacturer in India, we aim to steer the industry in a new direction towards sustainable practices and play our part in supporting the country’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions. We believe this step will positively impact the environment and inspire other companies to follow suit.”
The PEFC certificate provides a license and assurance to Jay Wood Industry to source wood only from forests that meet strict environmental sustainability standards. This certification is a significant step towards the company’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2035. The company has also secured the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification, which guarantees that the wood is sourced from responsibly managed forests.
The PEFC is a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable forest management through certification on a global scale. The FSC certification system was established in response to concerns about deforestation and the negative impact of poorly managed forests. To obtain either certification, companies must adhere to specific standards that encompass all aspects of forest management, including the conservation of biodiversity, protection of forests, and the preservation of the rights of indigenous people. Jay Wood Industry has received multiple accolades and achievements, including being the first Indian manufacturer to receive a certification from the European Pallet Association. The company has grown its production scale over ten times, from 200 pallets a day to 2500 pallets a day, with an annual capacity of producing five lakh+ pallets annually, serving 100+ customers nationwide.
