FLATPACK- Single-Piece
Maximizing functionality and minimising waste were key goals of efficient furniture design.
The rocking chair, side table, and foot rest are all made from one straightforward piece of plywood rather than from separate components. To prevent the production of any waste materials, this is accomplished by precise design and cutting using a CNC machine. To further simplify the furniture design, the joinery is also carved out of the plywood. Highlights a sturdy construction that can be easily assembled by the end user to further eliminate shipping restrictions.
Repurposed Sawdust Tables
The sawdust low table was created as a way to recycle sawdust generated while carving and sculpting. The artist develops a new medium for this by mixing solid wood, sawdust, polymer, and clay mixture. Several forms are created that can be used to fabricate more parts.
Airport Lounge Sleep Pods
At London Heathrow Airport, British Airways boasts a Forty Winks, a nap area. There are nap pods in the lounge that give travellers who need to get some rest before their flight the opportunity to do so in an EnergyPod provided by the airline. The EnergyPod is made for quick naps and comes with an adjustable privacy visor. A one-touch start button on the EnergyPod initiates a gravity-neutral position and a pre-programmed 20-minute slumber session. The pod reclines to raise the feet when it is triggered, allowing for a peaceful power nap. For the time being, only London Heathrow Airport can use the Forty Winks room. When international travel restrictions are eased, the airline plans to upgrade its Concorde Rooms at London Heathrow Terminal 5 and New York’s JFK Terminal 7 by installing EnergyPods.
