A greener approach to sustainable urbanization: Wood Barn India

A double-laminate T&G structure was accomplished in around 12 hours by Wood Barn India.

Wooden house, which is more than just aesthetically pleasing. How do you improve the building’s sustainability credentials and the architecture’s overall functionality?

Modern construction technologies, of which modern houses made of wood are a part, promote the concept and use of environmentally and energetically efficient structures. The employment of approaches that analyse sustainability criteria throughout a product’s life cycle is becoming more common in wood building projects. The life-cycle assessment and life-cycle cost approaches are used to examine environmental and economic sustainability characteristics as part of a broader assessment of permanent sustainability. A timber house is cozy, long-lasting, and unique. A wooden house is eco-friendly, green, and has a low carbon footprint because it is made of natural materials.

In India, why is wood better than concrete construction? How eco-friendly and technologically advanced are these wooden homes?

Just as the concrete construction process itself significantly contributes to the depletion of natural resources, the production of construction materials contributes to significant environmental pollution and greenhouse emissions (particularly CO2). Wooden houses consume 65 percent less energy and do not have on-site water. In the long run, they use less electricity for heating and cooling than brick and steel structures. Wood Barn At least 90% of India’s wooden structures have a R90 fire rating. This signifies that the construction can withstand a direct flame for 90 minutes before collapsing. This is higher than the structures made of brick and steel. Wood is a quick and efficient building material. Our eco-build manufacturing procedures are completed in-house, with only assembly and installation taking place on-site.

Digital manufacturing and computational design techniques help to make wooden architecture easier. Does this allow architects and engineers to create even more intricate and efficient wooden structures?

Absolutely, digital manufacturing and computational design techniques help us develop a fast and highly-accurate assembly method for modular wooden construction. A digital design procedure is first presented and includes a computational method to segment and unfold a target building profile and a computational method to digitally fabricate segments. Computational Methods for Assembly, Prefabrication, and Structural Design. This enables quick, precise, and simple on-site assembly by leveraging prefabrication technology and reducing and replacing increasingly expensive manual labor.

Wood is making a comeback in modern architecture, and some of the world’s best architects are supporting it. Isn’t it about time for architects and real estate developers to stand out by offering wooden homes?

We are preparing for a future in which wooden buildings are the norm, as well as a future in which wooden buildings can accomplish so much more than they can today. We are trying to establish a real alternative to the standard urban neighborhood using wooden architecture. One that has a low-carbon footprint and restores, rather than depletes, its natural surroundings. The demand for wooden homes is catching up with India as we have installed wooden houses in various regions of India. It blends with nature, the current state of sustainable architecture in terms of efficiency and practicality. Wood Barn India has constructed wooden residences and resorts in over 26 Indian states, including J & K, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, Assam, Tripura, and others.

The demand for home renovation products has increased. How much growth have you noticed in product trends?

The interior design and construction industries benefit from our innovative products that provide time-saving, installation-ready solutions. Wood Barn India continues to transform wooden architecture by providing out-of-the-box solutions that are not only simple to implement but also cost-effective. Wooden dog houses, wooden houses, eco-log huts, vacation homes, farmhouses, resorts, gazebos, wooden caravans, terraces, and treehouses are among our projects. Wooden dog houses are currently one of the most popular products on the market. Natural wood can provide your dog with a secure and healthy habitat. A dog home should provide a secure and pleasant resting area for your dog. As it stands, a wooden house will suffice.

Where is the potential for improvement, and what will the next steps be for the expansion of the platform’s capabilities? How do you see competition in the field of innovation?

Wood Barn India is the industry leader in environmentally friendly construction, emphasising the value of the environment and its resources. Wood Barn is a strategic partner of RantaSalmi, one of the world’s oldest log home manufacturers, which has been building log homes in Finland since 1946, and we were the first to bring the concept of smart eco-wooden homes to India in 2006. We frequently find ourselves at the forefront of new advancements, exploring new ideas and creating better living and construction practices thanks to our extensive experience and strong traditions. We are always up for innovations and advancements. There is always a room for improvement.

The quality of the construction materials chosen has a significant impact on the overall quality of the project. What do different wood species do in terms of quality and performance?

The strength of laminated timber is about 3 times greater than concrete and about 2 times greater than steel utilities. We build log homes, tree houses, and resorts that are energy efficient and made from the finest SPF (Spruce Pine Fir) wood sourced directly from managed forests in British Columbia and Scandinavian countries that are PEFC and FSC certified. Engelmann Spruce, Lodgepole Pine, and Subalpine Fir make up the spruce-pine-fir (SPF). Because of its high strength-to-weight ratio, SPF is predominantly used for framing in North American houses. Due to its dimensional stability and superior bonding qualities, SPF is widely used in the flat-pack furniture sector due to its utilisation. It’s also ideal for modular homes, interior finishing, boxes, pallets, shipping cases, and concrete formwork. Doors, door frames, and windows made from yellow cedar have exceptional longevity due to the wood’s natural resistance to decay. Western red cedar is ideal for cladding and pergolas, as the wood species has exceptional working properties like natural resistance to termites, rot and decay.

The wood industry has a major problem in finding sufficient skilled workers. What steps have you taken to ensure a skilled workforce?

The problem can be alleviated to a degree with the help of automation and the introduction of digital technologies. But the real answer will be found in training future members for the workforce. The Institute of Wood Science and Technology does an excellent job of educating and training people who work in the wood industry. This also opens up employment opportunities in our field.

What’s your view on export business in this industry and where do you see yourself on the global platform?

The woodworking industry in India is amongst the fastest growing sectors. China is both the world’s largest exporter and importer of wood. main export destinations for the wood-based industry are the US and Japan, followed by China, Singapore, and India.

Where is the potential for improvement, and what will the next steps be for the expansion of the platform’s capabilities?

Wood Barn India is a technical partner with the world’s oldest wooden building manufacturer, and we are proud of our high-quality finish and craftsmanship. Wood Barn India is India’s only wooden structure developer who has constructed four stories entirely out of wood. Wood Barn is a pioneer in the field of wooden construction in India, having built 18+ five-star resorts and 600+ dwellings in a variety of climates. It is also one of the first wooden houses manufactured to have used CLT and glulam.

What has been the experience of wood barn India with Canadian wood species used in projects all throughout India?

Canadian Wood is establishing an ecosystem where woodworking professionals can join together to encourage the acceptance and usage of sustainably obtained wood species from British Columbia, Canada. Wood Barn India has constructed over 600 wooden structures across the country, with a particular emphasis on projects that incorporate Canadian wood species. In around 12 hours, he completed a double-laminated T&G construction. The prefabricated home was constructed using Canadian Spruce-pine-fir (SPF), a popular structural material due to its high strength-to-weight ratio and dimensional stability. In addition, the house’s laminated wall structure raised the thickness of the walls to 70 mm, increasing their strength, stiffness, and insulating properties.
