Rising demand for ready-to-move-in homes: Shivalik Group to set up furniture manufacturing unit in Sanand

Real-estate developer Shivalik Group has acquired six acres in Sanand for setting up a manufacturing unit for custom-made furniture and wood-work to meet the demand for “fully furnished homes”.

“The work for constructing this unit in Sanand GIDC (industrial estate) has already begun. We will be investing about Rs 50 crore. The unit is expected to be commissioned by March 2024 and is expected to satiate the demand for fully furnished homes. In Gujarat, we will be the first developers to have a manufacturing facility,” said Managing Director Taral Shah during a brief interaction with mediapersons at GIFT City.

“There is now a huge demand for ready-to-move apartments in Gujarat. We are creating an ecosystem where customers have an option to get a fully furnished house. This is a timeless industry,” Shah said, adding that 90 per cent of the furniture market in Gujarat is in the unorganised sector and there is a lot of scope for future development.

The unit will manufacture wooden chairs, sofas, doors, beds and other woodwork used in interiors of homes.

The developer said that customers of their first residential project in GIFT City — Sky View — will also get an option to get furnished houses. “About 80 per cent of our residential project is sold. A majority of them are investors from Mumbai, South India and Non-Resident Indians. This kind of option will be favourable to such customers,” he added. The under-construction Rs 420-crore residential project, shaped like a drone, will be ready for occupation by the end of 2026. The developer is investing close to Rs 2,000 crore in three projects in GIFT City that includes a curved office building.
